KORONADAL CITY - In its endeavor to honor every Overseas Filipino Worker, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration XII, graced the 1st Localized OFW Family Day celebration of Pigcawayan with the theme "Ang Diwa ng Pasko, Nasaan man, Mananatili sa puso ng bawat Pamilyang OFW" last December 9, 2016 held at their Multi-Purpose Gymnasium.
The event was attended by more than two hundred fifty (250) OFWs and their families and was realized through Public OFW Desk Office spearheaded by Ms. Beverly P. Yu. This is in partnership with its Local Government Unit, OFC Federation of Pigcawayan and OWWA - RWO XII.
This year's celebration of Picawayan OFW Family Day highlights the bravery and sacrifices of OFWs as they face challenges and frustrations.
A variety of contests participated by nine OFW Family Circles who portrayed their experiences of while working in the foreign shores added to the fun. In addition, door and raffle prizes were given away. Among the prizes were: washing machine (1st prize), bed (2nd Prize), stand fan (3rd prize), and grocery packages.
Ms. Beverly P. Yu, PODO-designate said "This is the first and definitely not the last celebration of Pigcawayan. Mas paghuhusayan pa namin ang pag-iisip ng konsepto para bawat taon ay mas maging kapana-panabik pa ang pagdiriwang na ito. All these, of course, for our OFWs."
Hon. Jesus “Susing” Sacdalan, Representative of North Cotabato and the Guest of Honor, committed to donate one million pesos in order to provide sustainable livelihood grants to the eleven OFW associations in Pigcawayan.
The OFW Family Day celebration aims to give tribute and recognition to our modern heroes. It also serves as an inspiration for their families to maintain their family ties despite distance.
Officer-in-Charge Marlyn E. Jamero, represented by Family Welfare Officer – North Cotabato Elliel Dominic F. Cerna, extended her salutation to the OFWs with a message - “Taos puso po akong nagpapasalamat at naniniwala sa kakayahan ng bawat OFW sa Pigcawayan. Ito po ay patunay na hindi hadlang ang pagkakalayo ng mga miyembro ng pamilya upang magkaroon ng isang buo, nagmamahalan at nagkakaisang pamilya.”
The Localized OFW Family Day is a mandate as per Presidential Proclamation NO. 276 dated June 21, 1998 declaring the month of December every year as the “Month of Overseas Filipinos”.
