OWWA RWO 8 JOINS THE CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL WOMEN'S MONTH 2017

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration – Regional Welfare Office VIII joined the celebration of the National Women’s Month 2017 with the theme “We make Change for Women”. To show support to this activity, the agency hanged streamers and posted the official logo/streamer of the Women’s Month 2017 to its official social media accounts.

 

OWWA RWO 8 also showed appreciation and gratefulness to walk-in female clients by giving them roses and notes of encouragement.

 

A Risk Reduction Management Training was also conducted last March 13, 2017 with Mr. Rey Ezekiel P. Barbasa, a representative from the National Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council (NDRRMC) –Regional Office VIII to OWWA staff. 

 

Mr. Barbasa thoroughly explained the different preparedness measures before, during and after a calamity. Part of the RRMT was an earthquake drill which was participated by the clients and staff of OWWA RWO 8.

 

Part of the culminating activity for the National Women’s Month 2017, was the conduct Gender and Development Training to its staff last March 24-26, 2017 at Bal’s Inn and Pavilion, Libagon, Southern Leyte.

 

The activity aimed to promote gender equality in the workplace and to discuss good practices, challenges, and commitments in pursuing gender and development and empowerment of women.

 

During the two-day training different topics were discussed including Breast and Prostate Cancer, Proper Hygiene and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Awareness. Further, Ms. Juliet Z. Tan, Supervising Administrative Officer, together with Mr. Jolo L. Barcillano, IT Trainer, discussed R.A. 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004).

 

During her talk, Ms. Tan briefly discussed provisions and criminal acts under R.A. 9262. She also shared some statistics related to VAWC cases in the region.

 

After the intensive discussion on the aforementioned topics, team building activities were facilitated by FWO Rodah A. Cerna and Jul-Ann C. Regaton to strengthen the bond and camaraderie among staff.

 

OWWA RWO 8 continue to support events and activities that will uplift the interest of OFWs and their beneficiaries and will give due recognition to the contributions of Filipino women in our society.
