OWWA Administrator PY Caunan met with representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) headed by Mr. Euan McDougall, Head of Programs and Ms. Yuko Tomita, Programme Manager, to discuss improving orientation seminars for OFWs in different stages of their migration—from Pre-Migration, Pre-Employment, Pre-Departure to Post-Arrival.

One of the main topics discussed is the re-arrangement of the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) conducted by OWWA. According to Admin PY, it’s important to have orientations more effective, meaningful, and appropriate for OFWs to truly benefit.

“People just go there [PDOS] since it’s a requirement, but we want to change that. We want to be able to capture the audience […] Maybe in a creative manner. We will produce an Audio-Visual Presentation for our PDOS modules where they can watch it anywhere and anytime,” ani Admin PY.

Possible training for OWWA officers in the Philippines and abroad was also discussed, according to the Reintegration Handbook of IOM. This aims to ensure that the DMW and OWWA programs are compatible in terms of reintegration and services for existing OFWs.

“We need to think of ways of how to make our orientation seminars effective,” dagdag ni Admin PY. “We’ll make sure our OFWs know the worth of their OWWA membership.”
Through this collaboration, OWWA hopes to further deepen the knowledge of OFWs and strengthen their readiness at every stage of their migration.

“We need to think of ways of how to make our orientation seminars effective,” dagdag ni Admin PY. “We’ll make sure our OFWs know the worth of their OWWA membership.”
