Deputy Administrator Mary Melanie Quiño attended the first meeting of the Technical Working Group (TWG) formed by the House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs to study the fraudulent activities related to the shipping of balikbayan boxes.

Concrete steps were discussed at the meeting to:

Implement reforms on existing laws and regulations for more effective protection of OFWs against fraudulent freight forwarders.

Addressing the issue of more than 5,000 abandoned balikbayan boxes in the Bureau of Customs, including the possibility of donating it to DMW.

Investigate and hold accountable those behind the undelivered and lost shipments of our countrymen.
OWWA, DMW, and other agencies will continue to work together to make sure that the hardships of our OFWs will not be wasted and that their family parcel reaches their homes safely.

Kaisa ang OWWA sa pagtugon sa isyu ng Balikbayan Box Scams

Dumalo si Deputy Administrator Mary Melanie Quiño sa unang pulong ng Technical Working Group (TWG) na binuo ng House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs upang pag-aralan ang mga fraudulent activities na may kaugnayan sa pagpapadala ng balikbayan boxes.

Tinalakay sa pagpupulong ang mga konkretong hakbang upang:

Magsagawa ng mga reporma sa umiiral na batas at regulasyon para sa mas epektibong proteksyon ng OFWs laban sa mapanlinlang na freight forwarders.
