Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed between the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Government of the Province of Nova Scotia, Canada for a humane, just, and orderly system of labor migration of Filipino workers to Nova Scotia on Monday, June 9.

Agreement signed between DMW led by Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and Nova Scotia Minister of Advanced Education Brendan Maguire.

Ayon kay OWWA Admin PY Caunan, “This MOU is not just about opening more doors for Filipino workers—it’s about opening the right ones […] With dignity, transparency, and fairness at every step.”

Some of the agreed areas of cooperation:

✅ Recruitment and immigration pathways made easier
✅ Protection against illegal recruitment and human trafficking
✅ Scholarship and training for OFWs
✅ Legal assistance at social protection
✅ Recognizing the skills and qualifications of Filipino workers

This agreement is the result of patient negotiations started last year, and will now formally become a pathway towards safer, more humane, and more inclusive migration for Filipinos.

Bagong partnership sa Nova Scotia Canada, hatid ay proteksyon at oportunidad para sa OFWs

Pormal nang nilagdaan ang Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) sa pagitan ng Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) at ng Government of the Province of Nova Scotia, Canada para sa isang makatao, makatarungan, at maayos na sistema ng labor migration ng mga manggagawang Pilipino patungong Nova Scotia noong Lunes, Hunyo 9.

Nilagdaan ang kasunduan sa pagitan ng DMW sa pangunguna ni Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac at Nova Scotia Minister of Advanced Education Brendan Maguire.

✅ Proteksyon laban sa illegal recruitment at human trafficking
✅ Scholarship at training para sa OFWs
✅ Legal assistance at social protection
✅ Pagkilala sa skills at qualifications ng mga manggagawang Pilipino

Ang kasunduang ito ay bunga ng matiyagang negosasyon na sinimulan pa noong nakaraang taon, at ngayon ay pormal nang magiging daan tungo sa mas ligtas, mas makatao, at mas inklusibong migrasyon para sa mga Pilipino.
