OWWA Region 10 releases livelihood assistance to 82 OFW returnees in February 2020
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration – Regional Welfare Office 10 (OWWA – RWO 10) released P1,530,000.00 worth of livelihood assistance to eighty-two (82) displaced/distressed OFWs in February 2020. The beneficiaries were from the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Gingoog, Oroquieta and other neighboring provinces and municipalities within Northern Mindanao.
They were given financial assistance for livelihood development under the Balik Pinas! Balik-Hanapbuhay! Program (BPBH) which aims to provide immediate relief to returning member-OFWs who are displaced because of hostilities or war/political conflicts in host countries, victims of illegal recruitment or other distressful situations such as maltreatment, poor working condition, and health problems.
Most of the displaced OFWs had worked from countries in the Middle East like Bahrain, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar and were repatriated through the assistance of the respective Philippine Overseas Labor Offices (POLOs) through OWWA, the employees of recruitment agencies, and other offices of the Philippine government.
The assistance given to the qualified members amounts to Twenty Thousand Pesos (P20,000.00) each for active members, Ten Thousand Pesos (P10,000.00) each for non-active members with more than one contribution, and Five Thousand Pesos (P5,000.00) each for non-active members who had only one contribution.
The said financial assistance can be availed only once by qualified beneficiaries and within three years after their return to the Philippines.
