OWWA-RWO1 Conducts OFW Family Day 2021 With a Twist and a Blast!

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office 1 (OWWA – RWO 1) conducts OFW Family Day 2021 with a blast. With the emergence of COVID-19 in 2020, OWWA institutional events were temporarily suspended which includes two of the annual events of OWWA: “Araw ng Pasasalamat” or the Migrant Workers Day and the OFW Family Day. With its comeback this year, OWWA – RWO1 went beyond its regional borders to share revelry in recognition for the invaluable contributions and sacrifices of our modern-day heroes. OWWA being the lead agency tasked to protect and promote the general welfare and well-being of OFWs and their families, highlights this activity which also serves as an avenue to give honor to OFWs and provide them with an enduring experience with their families.

This year, RWO1 made history in the conduct of OFW Family Day where it flew the airwaves through the online world via live stream on the 18th of December 2021 fueled with different fun-filled activities and loaded with valued prizes. The live stream aired via OWWA La Union and OWWA Regional Welfare Office 1 (official social media accounts of OWWA – RWO1) was viewed 17,000 times, with 1,600 shares and 19,000 comments was indeed a milestone for the Regional Office. The activity was further made special with the surprise guesting of one of today’s Tiktok trendsetters, and proud Ilocano, Berniecular vlogs with 3.2 Million followers and 25.5 million likes on TikTok.

The OFW Family Day started through its kick-off activity – Quiz Game on December 13 to 17, 2021 where questions highlighted the lives of OFWs. Fifty (50) quiz game-winners bagged cash prizes and were sent to them via G-cash.

OFW Family Day 2021 was jam-packed with fun-filled activities like singing contest, TikTok Dance Challenge and raffle draws which were jointly participated by OFW Family Circle Leaders, Migrant Desk Officers, stakeholders, and OFW families nationwide and across the world.

Dulcet voices of Ilocano OFWs and dependents were heard on high in their Christmas carols in the Singing Contest (Vocal Solo). Garnering the highest score from the other contenders, Ms. Samantha Catambay an OFW dependent from Mangaldan, Pangasinan bagged the crown as the overall champion in her rendition of O’ Holy Night and bagged PHP 5,000.00 worth of G-cash prize. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th placers received PHP 4,000, PHP 3,000 and PHP 1,500 respectively. All other contestants also received their consolation prizes.

OWWA – RWO1 also launched its TikTok Dance challenge through the 2021 OFW Family Day. The competition was open to all ages who are OFWs or OFW dependents and bonafide residents of Region 1. The group of OFW dependents from Ilocos Norte headed by Marc Louise A. Corpuz get together on the dance floor with their beat-busting Christmas dance medley and win the hearts of the netizens and the panel of judges. The group was awarded PHP 5,000.00 worth of G-cash prize. G-cash prizes were also awarded to the finalists as well as to all of those who submitted their entries.

There were fifty-two (52) winners in the raffle draws conducted during the day of the activity who also bagged cash prizes which were sent through their verified G-cash accounts.

Spreading the message of love and care to all of the OFWs and their families, OWWA – RWO1 has released its 2021 Christmas Station ID (which can be viewed at https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=4584783998274348&id=100002283805062 ) to formally close the online activity.

The activity received numerous praises from the viewers and partners because of its purpose of upholding the Filipino spirit of Bayanihan and celebrating the heroism of the OFWs during this time of the pandemic.

OFW Family Day was also brought to the OFW families who were severely affected by the Severe Tropical Storm Maring in the provinces of La Union, Pangasinan, and Ilocos Sur. There were 6 LGUs identified for La Union, 3 for Pangasinan and 3 for Ilocos Sur. The Municipalities of Luna, Bangar, Balaoan, Bacnotan, San Juan, and San Gabriel, La Union became and a total of 2,000 OFW families benefited in the activity. And, 500 OFW families from Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur also became part of the activity. 

Fun-filled activities and information dissemination on the Programs and Services of OWWA were highlighted during the activity. Snacks and IEC materials were also provided among the attendees. Winners of the games and raffles were given an OFW Family Day bag which includes face mask, alcohol spray, and program primers. Prepaid home wifi with a signal booster and extender were given to twenty-four (24) lucky OFWs and dependents who are present in the activity and with active OWWA membership.

The LGU-recipients of the activity extended their gratitude for the timely delivery of the programs and services of OWWA to their constituents and for bringing closer the love and support of the government right at the doorstep of the OFW families.

OWWA – RWO1 also extended its gratitude to all its partners and stakeholders who made the OFW Family Day a successful event.
