POST TRAINING REPORT

The project HEADSTART: Fostering Integration Before Departure  was held in May 21, 2015 at Vienna, Austria. It was led by the International Organization for Migration(IOM) and was participated by project and associate partners:

The project aimed to enhance the capacity of service providers in the countries of origin to deliver relevant and cost- effective pre-departure integration services to the third-country nationals migrating to the EU, through improved networking among themselves and their counterparts in the countries of destination in the EU, and better coordination of the pre-departure and post-arrival provision of relevant services based on the good practices in this field identified by the project.

 

There was knowledge sharing and network building among practitioners from countries of origin to explore pathways to a stronger link between pre-departure and post-arrival immigrant integration services. 

 

Subjects/topics were divided into categories including Job Matching and Labour Market integration pre-departure. Partnership for Skills Development, views and reflections from project partner countries.

 

POLO Rome was  taken in under the Partnerships for Skills Development.

 

Shared practices and testimonies from migrants who were also invited became part of the lessons for consolidation.

Undersigned discussed the existing  Pre Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) and  Post Arrival Orientation Seminar (PAOS), Financial Literacy with spouse or children before departure and upon arrival at the host country to help worker and family to have a sound savings and to have a guide  for wise investments. Also included are the short term courses (skills training)  that are conducted at post which may provide immediate employment for migrants who were affected by the economy, Computer Literacy to improve and strengthen the communication gap between the OFW and family left behind and Basic Italian Language of the host country to improve communication skill of the worker and to create harmonious and mutual benefit to both worker and employer improve the working relationship of  both.

 

From the views and reflections of  the participants, it is expected that it may increase scope and improve quality of pre-departure integration support in the countries of origin, improve integration support planning and consolidated information provision to prospective migrants on  the part of immigration and integration authorities in the countries of destination in the EU, strengthen capacities of the existing Migrant Resource Centres to deliver comprehensive information and training support to potential migrants.

Migrants Day Celebration 2015

The annual celebration of the Migrants Day spearheaded by POLO-OWWA  was done at Naples, Italy on the 2nd day of  June 2015 at Hostel Mergellina Salita Della Grotta 23.

 

The event was attended by almost twenty five different Filipino communities from Rome, Terni, Napoli and Salerno. Twelve of these Filcoms participated in the competition for cultural  presentation. 

 

Minister and Consul General Leila Lora Santos from PE Rome  was the Guest Speaker.  Guests from the Italian government were Onorevole Alessandro Fucito from the Assesore Patrimonio Commune di Napoli,  Avv. Velerio Sasso and Fr. Antonio Pasciello who celebrated the Eucharistic Celebration for the migrants.

Highlighting the event was the services provided by POLO-OWWA. Entertained queries and acceptance of payment for OWWA  registration. POLO also had the BM Online registration for Balik Manggagawa processing in preparation for the seminar to be conducted next month.

 

Said seminar will help new registrants on how to do the right process  and to get rid of the long queue while applying for the overseas employment certificate or the oec before going home.

Free medical mission  was also provided during the event. Four members of  the Filipino Nurses Association (FNA) led by its president, Ms. Helaria Pescador from Rome was able to provide Blood Pressure monitoring, Blood Sugar level check up, Cholesterol Level check up, health tips for good health for 120 availees. First Aid was also provided to a child who has incurred a minor injury during the event.

Twelve Filcoms enthusiastically showed their talent during the competition for interpretative cultural presentation.  Every production showcased folkdances and songs Filipinos truly love. Winners were chosen through mastery of their piece,  stage performance and relevance to the event.

1.      Association of Filipinos United of Salerno .- First Prize

2.      Visayas- Mindanao Organization- Second Prize

3.      Filipino Community of Terni

 

All Filipino Communities who attended the event were awarded with plaques and certificates of recognition . OWWA - Kaanib Award was specially awarded to three Filipino Communities and two individuals  for their philantrophic acts in sponsoring poor but deserving children of the under privileged   migrant workers.
