A total of thirty – nine (39) scholars participated the OWWA XII’s 7th Scholars’ Conference dubbed as "Sapat at Wastong Kaalaman, Susi sa Matagumpay na Kinabukasan." held at Sarangani Highlands Garden, Brgy. Tambler, General Santos City on April 27-28, 2017.


This year’s activity focused on Understanding Adolescents Nowadays: Issues and Coping Skills Seminar. It places emphasis on the need to understand adolescents’ issues and dilemmas and help them develop useful mechanisms in order to cope up and combat these concerns. Furthermore, it aims to provide them an avenue to actively explore one’s self and strengthen their interpersonal relationship with other scholars.


The two – day activity was filled with learning and fun as the methodologies and techniques used by the speaker complements with the expectations of the scholars. Among the activities conducted were group sharing and discussions, learning sessions, reporting and role plays.


They also had the chance to acquaint with their co-scholars through various games and fun-filled activities. Among the highlights is the Quad-Wizard Challenge where the scholar’s set of skills particularly in logical reasoning where put into test. Other activities include Karaoke Challenge, Pinoy Henyo and Jack en Poy.


Shy Kairyl S. Wambangco, 3rd Year ODSP Scholar, extended her gratitude to the agency for its initiative to provide them with this training. "Napakarami po naming natutunan tungkol sa buhay, kung papaano kami makapag cope up sa lahat ng mga problema na kinakaharap namin. Maraming salamat po, sa uulitin.", she added.

Meanwhile, Mr. Giovanni Gibson B. Docusin, Scholarship Program In-Charge said "We at the OWWA Regional Welfare Office XII have always tried the best of our efforts to provide our scholars with various trainings and seminars, necessary to address their urgent and immediate needs and concerns”.


Officer-in-Charge Marlyn E. Jamero firmly believes that valuable capability building trainings must be constantly given to OWWA scholars to motivate and thrust them to work harder and achieve their dreams in life.


The Scholars’ Conference is an annual activity of the agency that aims to provide its scholars with worthwhile trainings and seminars to support their learning development.
