OWWA RWO IV-A facilitated the conduct of “Free Basketball Clinic for Children of OFWs” last 17 December 2016 at the covered court of Barangay 7, Calamba City. Said project was the initiative of Rotary Club of Pasay Metro Sunrise and the Philippine Recruitment Association of Agencies to Saudi Arabia (PRAASA) which aims to foster camaraderie and healthy body among children of OFWs through the joy of basketball clinic.
Former OWWA Administrator Carmelita Dimzon who advocated and coordinated the conduct of said clinic, graced the occasion.
The activity started with an invocation by Ms. Angela Pauline S. Subando, an ELAP Scholar, and followed by the singing of national anthem by Mr. Lawrence Ray Angeles, RWO IV-A Family Welfare Officer in Laguna.
Brgy. Captain Victor A. Opaco welcomes all guests and players and he was followed by OWWA RWO IV-A OIC Julia Fabian who made the opening remarks. She emphasized that the event was designed to reach out to the OFW children to impart some skills which they might use in the future. She further stressed that OWWA not only provides scholarship but also special activities which aims to boost the morale and confidence of OFWs children. Ms. Fabian also was delighted with the fact that some ELAP scholars actively participated in the said event.
During the conduct of the clinic, the coaches split the participants into different teams and apply rotation every after 20 minutes doing ball handling and teaching defense in order to prepare the players to a later match. Soon after, the match exhibition ensued wherein each cohort team shown what they’ve got to the coaches and sponsors. They exhibit, too, and applied all the concepts and strategies learned from the half-day basketball clinic.
This fun-filled event ended with all participants flashing their smiles and thumbs up for the successful conduct of the clinic.
With the success of the event, OWWA RWO IV-A, Rotary Club of Pasay Metro Sunrise and the Philippine Recruitment Agencies Association for Saudi Arabia (PRAASA) officials are looking forward to conduct more regular clinics in CALABARZON to reach out to more children of OFWs in the region.
