The first batch of the Enhanced Entrepreneurial Development Training were attended by sixty nine (69) beneficiaries of the Balik-Pinas, Balik-Hanapbuhay (BPBH) Program. As of April 21, 2017, a total of thirty-six livelihood starter kits were already released and the agency is continuously releasing the remaining kits.

The said EEDT was conducted in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry-Leyte last March 9, 10, 15 and 16, 2017.

The EEDT aimed to equip the beneficiaries with proper knowledge and attitude in managing a business. They were also taught to make business plans and were given tips on how to guarantee progress with their business ventures.

Qualified beneficiaries of this program are active or non-active OFWs who were displaced from their jobs due to war/political conflicts in host countries or policy reforms controls and changes by the host government or are victims of illegal recruitment and/or human trafficking and other distressful situations.

Ten thousand pesos (Php 10, 000.00) worth of livelihood starter kits were given to qualified beneficiaries, which they can use as a start-up capital to any business they are planning to venture.

Among the preferred start-up businesses were Rice Trading, Hog Raising, Agri-Business, Furniture Repair, E-loading, Handicraft and Appliance Repair. Of the sixty-nine total beneficiaries sixty-eight percent chose rice trading as their livelihood project.

This reintegration program is OWWA’s way of mainstreaming returning OFWs into Philippine society by way of self-employment or livelihood project as a means of income-generation for the family even after their overseas employment.
